Discussion Question 1 - completed during Weekend One
What do you know about using technology with students?
That they love to use anything that they can manipulate or control that has buttons, sounds and or pictures. As they play they are engaged in the game and usually are learning as they play. For example, my son asked for the video game I can't remember the name something with the title of war in it. When he was a freshmen in high school he never brought home social studies homework and always got high A's. I didn't get it and he said duh mom, that game I am always playing on the computer is related to the subjects in my social studies class. My mouth just about dropped.
What do you want to know about using technology with students?
How to problem solve when I or the students get stuck or hung up a program I just don't feel that I am as knowledgeable about how to fix or solve the problem. I guess I will just have to be patient and use the internet to help solve the problem.

Look at the Essential 21st Century Skills List - Select one skill and discuss how you already meet this skill via your current instruction.
I would say it would be Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills. When I have taught foods classes the students work together in groups to prepare foods within a certain period of time, eat, and clean up. They have certain roles and responsibilities for each lab. If the students do not work together than they will not be finished in time to be able to eat the finished product.
Select another Essential 21st Century Skill that you may NOT already touch upon and project how you might be able to meet that need in future instruction.
I have been teaching for almost twenty years and when I was in middle school are classes built in the accountability factor by keeping track of their grade in the form of an assignment/grade sheet. Most of the students, approximately 90% of the students got this concept and would monitor their progress and work to improve their grade. After working for ten years at the middle school level I transferred over to high school. The students that I had were accountable for their grade and didn't have to incorporate this into my class. However, the past couple of years I have noticed a huge difference in the number of students who are choosing not to be accountable for their grade and are satisfied with a just passing. I feel that it has changed that only about 10% of my students even care about pushing themselves to the next level. These students cannot even get to class on time or miss more than 10 days and don't think that there is anything wrong with this. When they are missing assignments it's my fault I didn't give it to them, they did it why isn't it in the computer. At one of the schools they are working on positive interventions to get students to be in class on time. The expectations is to be in the classroom when the bell rings. These student's do not care if they get the consequence of detentions. Students need to become more personally responsible and start setting and meeting higher standards.
One of the ways that I could do this is by having students set some goals. Grade, missing assignments, late assignments etc. Then revisit their goals at the progress and quarter marks and discuss what are they doing and what they need to do and have them look at the progress of their effort.
Discussion Question 3 - to be completed one week after the Weekend One
Find a TeacherTube/YouTube video that you could use for instructional purposes and copy and paste the address of the video for others to view. Explain how you would use this with your students.
One of the skills that an assistant child care worker needs to know is when and how to disinfect toys, diapering areas, and places where students eat. Students need to know what the difference is between something being clean and sanitized. Students need to be aware of why this is so important to do this especially in a child care center. Knowing and practicing this procedure can mean the difference between illness or even death.

Discussion Question 4 - to be completed Saturday/Weekend Two
To complete the KWHL- what have you learned from the readings, activities and discussions from this course about using technology with your students?
KWHL
What I knew before this class about using technology with me students is that it keeps them engaged, they are usually pretty good at it, it allows students who may not excel in by learning using traditional methods a way to even the playing field. What I wanted to learn is more interesting ways to incorporate technology into the classroom dynamics which supports the next generation skills or the 21st century skills. The class allowed me to see a whole bunch of different ways to use the different strategies and look at what I wanted the students to learn and how to incorporate these techniques so that the lessons would be stronger and allow for children to grow both socially and cognitively. I have learned a lot in this class, the text was easy to read and understand and gave great examples and website. The modeling done by the teacher was also fun and broke up the instruction from just not using computers and technology because you can not always have the option of having the computers everyday in your class. In addition doing quality work on your project allows for you to connect with your students and see what they have found in a program and you too learn new ways to use it and new things about them.
